Video description: a still of , a white woman with brown hair, sits in her wheelchair that has peach spoke guards with multicoloured butterflies dotted around on it. She wears a pink t-shirt and knit gillet, a pink green and white mesh skirt and pink tassel earrings. Words come up
“Hiii my name is Rebecca and I’m 30 and from Hertfordshire (but have also Irish roots-the countryside of Kerry is also my home 💚)
I’m a content creator, blogger and disability advocate- I work to end stigma and encourage others to feel comfortable with their disabled identity .”

In the next photo, Rebecca is sitting on the bank of a lake and is wearing a pink crochet hat with Daisy heads dotted around on it. A pink t-shirt covered in white beads , denim culottes . Her body faces the lake but she turns to face the camera. Words appear “I love being outside and being among nature. It’s the best retreat ever.
My favourite animal ever is a penguin-I adore their walk”

Rebecca is then seen sitting on her bed. In front of her is a selection of books. She is wearing a mainly blue jumper and rust coloured joggers . Words appear “I just took up hand-knitting and I love it so much. I’m just a third of a blanket complete.
I also like a good book- really into romance novels atm

Powered and manual wheelchairs both have their ind Powered and manual wheelchairs both have their individual advantages.
I love both chairs as they allow me experience freedom in different ways. My powered chair means that I can move and groove independently. My manual wheelchair is personally more easier to travel with (E.g fold in my sister’s or friends’ cars ) .

There seems to be a myth that says the type of wheelchair you have is dependent on ‘how disabled you are’. Can we leave this in the past, please?

It’s about fulfilling one’s needs so that freedom can be experienced!

Plimsolls. Words at the top of the screen says ‘Advantages of powered and manual wheelchairs.’ Next is a full view of the photo of Rebecca in her powered wheelchair and words come up on the screen “Immense freedom felt driving myself. Can wheel alongside the person I’m with Have more independence “
Then a full view of Rebecca in her manual wheelchair. Words come up “Easy to travel with as it can be folded More compact, so I can access more places My butterfly spoke guards🦋❤️ ‘ The two photos appear next to each other again but blurred out . Words over this say “Both wheelchairs have their own advantages, Both are tools to get me from A to B”

This year they have launched the ‘Virtual Aviation Experience’ (VAE) to disabled people, giving them an insight into what happens in flight

@aerobility asked me to take part and here is an overview of what happens in a session. The free Virtual Aviation Experience consists of three 90 minute sessions with an instructor.

Pretty cool for anyone wanting to know about the basics of a flight or just to learn a new skill!

Head over to @aerobility website to find out more!

Words come up “My instructor Laura teaches me about the features of the plane and of a flight.” The screen then shows inside the stimulator, showing a Aeorbility plane as Rebecca flies it is using her roller ball mouse . Never a more magical castle than @disneylandparis Never a more magical castle than @disneylandparis ✨ (cluster of stars emoji) Memories that will forever be in my heart ❤️ (red heart emoji)

What made this trip even more amazing was that the parks were so easy to navigate in my wheelchair. We were also given a booklet with a list of attractions and access points. As I looked through it, I noticed that was so much care to inform their visitors of possible sensory stimulation in each area of the park that might be triggering for those who are neurodivergent. For example the type of smells and sounds one might expect are listed. Therefore you can plan your day accordingly. How ace is this?!

As a lot of you may know from my stories , I turne As a lot of you may know from my stories , I turned 30 at the weekend and I felt extremely extremely grateful for the most wonderful surprise @mairead.may and Mum taking me to @disneylandparis . It was sooo special . I cannot thank these ladies enough. I love them with every inch of my heart ❤️ (red heart emoji )

There’s something about milestone birthdays that can offer so much reflection and it is also a great mark of celebration that you’ve survived all your ups and downs! How amazing is that?

I couldn’t write this post without mentioning my dear Dad, I thought about him lots on this trip as ever, and what he would say- he was always up to have fun. We saw lots of Goofy at Disney from the first few moments we arrived in the park. When Mairead and I was small we had a puppet of Goofy and Dad would play Goofy speaking in a high-pitched voice. We would ask Dad to do this over and over again!!!. So it really felt like he was with us in some way ❤️ (red heart)

Thanks so so much for all your love this weekend , I really appreciate you all 💕(2 pink hearts) Here’s to the 30s!!

When people view others in wheelchairs they automa When people view others in wheelchairs they automatically think the worst.

A wheelchair is a person’s mode of moving through the world, it is that simple. It’s only complicated when our wheels meet the first step of the stairs and there is no lift or ramp to the next level, or when our wheels are trying to move over impossible terrain. It these things that make life as a wheelchair is difficult- the world around sometimes refusing to see there is more than one way of navigating life and therefore fail to make space for us.

It’s also a huge bug bear of mine that because of this so-called devastating narrative, it has a knock effect on people who are new to wheelchair life and what this means. They are fed the idea that it is the worst thing and that somehow they lives has shrunk and are limited- what a tun of bricks on top of trying to adapt to a new way of living?

Instead they should be able to feel free and relief that they now have an aid that means that they are able to continue living their lives.
We need to change the narrative around what it means to be a wheelchair user.

Wheelchairs are not barrier, society is
